My 78 interior brake light will not go off. For a few weeks I could pump the brakes and the light would go out for a while but now that don't work....just stays on. My brake peddle goes close to the floor when applied. The emergency brake handle will come all the way up and hold nothing, which is not new to my car. Any suggestions? Thanks.
I have been going through the same thing. Get your brakes bleed. Most likely a caliper is sucking air. Bleeding should turn it out, then see if it come back. Start checking each caliper/bleed then see if the light goes out. Search some if my recent treads for simialar replies.
Check the fluid level in the master cylinder and see if one of the chambers is low on fluid. That will tell you which circuit has a problem, front or rear. A caliper or the master cylinder has a leak.
Most probably air in a brake circuit, probably aft due to worn wheel bearings or wobbling brake disk and still using the old lip seal design brake pistons.
Bleeding will turn the light off, but after a few miles driving, air will enter again unless you install brake O-ring piston kit or eliminate any wheel/brake disc wobble.
Yes, it is the light that comes on when parking brake is pulled up. I know I need to adjust parking brake but do not know if that has anything to do with light or not.
Thanks.
I'm going through the same thing. When I drop the parking brake the light dims so I was pretty sure it was still working right. I even pulled the parking brake cover and pushed the switch manually, light didn't go off. I know I have air in the line and am taking corrective actions. Sounds like you got the same issue if the pedal is going to the floor, bleed em.
