When I picked up my 77 a month or so ago, the carpet had already been removed and tossed. My question is, in the rear compartment, are there any "panels" that go in there, that the carpet attaches to, or does it just get glued to the body work itself? Just trying to make sure I am not missing any parts. The quarter trim is there as is the compartment frames and door. But thats it in the back. Everything else is just the fiberglass body.
Basically just glues down. 3M has a good adhisive that I have used several times. You do need to remove the trim around the three compartments behind the seats and replace when the new carpet is down.
There are a couple of places you can tuck the carpet under. Like the seat belt retractors behind the seats, and the framing behind the back of the door post.
'Just did my '77's carpet a couple months ago and no.. there are no panels back there as Ganey says above. I used very little glue in the rear, for the shoulder harness retractors and the storage compartment holds most of the carpet down (if carpet is trimmed properly) The carpet around the storage compartment deck should overlap the bottom of the wheel hump. The back deck (verticle deck behind window) has three snap in black buttons that hold the carpet up and in place. Pretty easy. One thing I've noticed is that some guys forget to cut a "flap" or "tab" in the carpet for the front rail of the seat. This hides the forward mounting bolt and forward seat mounting rail from view!! Take your time.. pre fit all pieces ten times before cutting and gluing, and it will turn out "professional"
