tranny drop questions
hey folks, i have a big question: i have a TH-400 in my '69 and am having trouble getting the tranny out. the top of the bellhousing seems to be hitting the floorboard side of the transmission tunnel on the passenger side. I don't have to cherry pick the engine to get this damn thing out, do I? everything is disconnected. any tricks? thanks

No, there is no need to move the engine to pull the tranny (that would be a major PITA if it were true). You should have a removable crossmember that should make removing the transmission a breeze. Did you drop the crossmember yet?

It is a tight fit but I don't believe that I have heard of anyone not being able to get the transmission out due to firewall clearance.
I'm assuming that you have the engine supported and the torque converter disconnected from the flex-plate etc.
Take a closer look, it should come right out.

You might try putting a jack up under the balancer at the front of the engine and raising the engine front up a little. This will drop the back of the engine an maybe provide you enough cleareance to pull the transmission back and out.
