Default Engine Rebuild 350 L-48

Anyone have any ballpark figures on what it would cost to have a 1980 L-48 rebuilt? Complete rebuild (Crank, Pistons, Rods, Oil Pump, Redue the heads(port and polish), maybe a little milder cam and an edelbrock intake (Keep the Q-Jet). Was wondering if anyone had the work done and how much they paid.

I guess in the thousands or close to $2000. It would be cheaper to buy a crate motor from GM and have it installed.
$1,200 for the motor
$150 for the intake
$500 to $750 install
And always add $200 for stuff. Plugs, etc.

Rough guess at 1500 bux to redo the original engine....assuming no major expensive parts need replaced....
except pistons, and cam/lifters/rockers of course...many an engine has reused rockers just fine....pushrods are ok, unless bent....
cam...use a torque cam good untill 5500 rpm's. or so...nothing wilder...
mild gasket match on heads....grind out casting roughness, smooth out passages...
regrind crank....make sure it's BALANCED.....
I figger on 16 complete sets of valve stem steals....and 8 exhaust valves, as needed....

SBC's are about the cheapest rebuildable engine you can do....cheaper than most 4 cylinder engines even...due to parts availability....

I am beginning to see what a great price I paid for my 383 rebuild... Mine was done by a retired machine shop owner that works out of his garage with all the equipment he moved in when he closed his shop. I paid $1400 for most of the things you mentioned... for me, no manifold and no port/polish... just a 383 rebuild.

Was just quoted $2100 to rebuild mine to have done what you want done. A bit more than a crate but when you add the performance parts to the crate not much difference.
