Hello, I have a 72 stock/original 454/400 trans and the timing is currently 36 total. My camaro has a built 355 and is at 52 total and runs great. Would 52 be too high for a stock 454? What is the average?
Thanks Eric
I'm just guessing here but I think the camaro total is with the vac advance connected and the vette is without the vac advance connected.
52 total on the vette without the vac adv connected would be too much timing.

On a SBC, 52-54° is a good value while in cruising ( 2500+ RPM ), and under mild acceleration with vac adv connected.
At WOT, 34-38° is a good range, depending on heads, comp. ratio & other parameters/equipments.
Don't know if these values are the same for BB, but some people will certainly do...
