Don't know about the 82 crossmember that is for the 7004r I doubt it will work. The stock 350/400 crossmember will work just ditch the 350 support bracket.I used the stock 350 kickdown bracket for the 2004r tv cable just get a universal cable. Shiftworks sells a kit to change over the shifter.

I stuck a 700 in my '72 Muncie vette, and later on went 200 4r for the reliability.....so my experiences are a tad different than some guys, in that I went stick to auto for the affordable overdrive at the time, still IS compared to 4 grand....
so far this 200 4r is fine, where as the 700 had many quirks....
Check out Bowtie Transmissions. They've got everything you need even if you're getting your trans somewhere else. Also a great set of sales folk that would be glad to answer your questions.

Could you tell me what engine and rear gear you used with your 2004r?
I am part a 82 vette with a 90 700r4 in it. Car is in southern california too (san bernadino area) it has everything you could need for your auto o/d conversion.
Nothing fancy overbuilt, just a '89 roller engine with L98 aluminum heads....and a cam up from ZZ4 specs.....425 lbs ~400 hp maybe on a good day....
336 gearset, same as what the car came with....and a Muncie also....
the tranny tail shaft sets on the cross support directly, I had to elongate the holes about 3/8 inch to the rear....easy job...
Really..I've been seriously considering that gearset too..!
Coincidentally I am building a C1 with a ZZ4 engine and an aftermarket frame/chassis with a Dana 44. My gear choices are 3.07, 3.34, 3.45...with the Dana 44.
Since your engine and my engine are nearly the same...what gear would you recommend after having actual experience with the 2004R. Do you like the 3.36 real well...higher /lower? I've been beating myself up trying to guess what would be best...HELP! heh heh !
Best regards...Stan
..oh what stall converter, did you say 1800 rpm?

I have the tranny and a rebuild kit plus goodies for a stout
rebuild.
The 82 shifter a 4 position one?
Does it have glass TTops?
PM..........
I was so excited about finding someone that had a similar set up as me and maybe some info on gears...I just wasn't thinking. Perhaps mrvette will pm me...
I stuck with the stock ratio because it was cheep, and the engine does like 2400 rpm at like 80 or so....locked up truck converter, I dunno the stall rating, but it's tight as it comes.....
I like to hear the driveshaft ring like you dropped it when it shifts...none of that slush o matic crap....
My first O/drive in this '72 was a 700, that I never liked from several aspects, when it went out again I went a 200 4r I built here in the garage....it works well for some 4 years time now....

They know their stuff and were beyond helpful and knowledgeable in helping me select an OD trans and all the stuff to go with it for my upcoming zz454/zz502 hybrid install.

I just installed a BTO 200 4R stage 2, with a 2200 rpm converter in my 80 with a rebuilt Dana rear with 3:31 gears. It really hooks up for very firm and fast gear shifts, and the overdrive is great to lower the rpms at freeway speeds. BTO has all the parts you'll need.

By fast gear shifts...you mean no slipage..or quickly between 1,2 3 gears (short legs?)
What hp and torque ..or what engine /cam if you know. Stock config or other?
