Default What Head gaskets to use?

I'm thinking of going with a set of these Brodix IK-180 Aluminum heads on a stock lower end, L48 350 in a '73. What head gaskets would be best to use, and what is the bore size that i need to look for? up to $70, or more if needed.

Also, a second question, can i use a EGR I-manifold with these heads, or will they not support EGR, i need to know for the intake manifold choice. thanks.

I have the IK200's and am using the Fel-Pro 1003 gasket. Think they're about $30 apiece

The IK's don't have the heat crossover, so you can get rid of the EGR

I'd use the GM .028" head gaskets.

The IKs do not have crossovers and if you have a Q-jet, you may need to convert it to an electric choke.

Hey Randy, I also need to pick a set of rocker arms for the heads. Do i need self aligning or can i use just stock stamped steel?

Also need to know what length of push rods to get???

Edit:
All right, talked to Brodix,, fel-pro 1003 head gasket, fel-pro 1404 exhaust, any stock GM intake gasket, have to change the studs for non roller rockers, Brodixes are tapered. What length push rods to use, is my only question.

IMHO, the 1003 is way to thick for your application. I would bet that Brodix is assuming you have "0" deck height in which case the 1003 would be a good choice. Stock L-48, the pistons are .025" in the hole, add on .041" for a 1003 gasket and your quench is too high at .066" and your compression is reduced. I would at least use the GM .028" gasket or even consider the Fel Pro 1094 as it is rated for aluminum heads and only .015" thick.

I would start with your stock pushrods and take a swipe pattern.

These heads have guideplates for the pushrods so you can't use self-aligning rockers. I am using the Summit aluminum roller rocker arms, believe they're made by Crane

Try what Scott recommends on the pushrods, if that doesn't work I have a push rod length checker you can use

i would use the felpro 1010 . they have the pre pressed copper ring that wont mark your aluminium heads should you ever take them off.

The summit or comp cams roller rockers are only about 50 bucks more then the stamped steel ones, so i'm most definitely going to go that route. When i talked to Brodix, the guy said that i'd have to change the studs if using stamped steel rockers, because they are tapered. I assume I'll still have the change the studs for the single type rollers also?

I'll check it out. I guess i need to figure out what compressed thickness i should go with.

I need to determine what compressed thickness i need. Pushrods are gong to be interesting.

Thanks all. C.

Pushrods are straightforward, just use the stock ones and order a plastic pushrod checker while you are at it. Even the Fel Pro 1010's are .039" thick. I'd still use a head gasket in the .015"-.028" maximum thickness for your application.

I think you will really like the performance of your selection as long as you pay attention to the details. One of them keeping a tight quench.

I helped a guy do a L48 top end last year. We used the IK180s, the Engle 1018H cam and Performer intake with the stock Q-jet and a recurved HEI distributor. You should have seen the smile on that guys face when he hit the pedal, its whole new ride now.
