Default engine runs rich

Had the car tuned this saturday after doing my firts dizzy rebuilt..So everything is ok but still feels the car is running a little bit rich. I can smell a little gas on the exhaust.. Also some black smoke (not terrible) when I give a hard pump on the gas (revving it up to show off). mixture screws are fine...I took one plug to check it and had some carbon...(not the milk coffee colour)
I have a l-82 stock with a edelbrock performer 600cfm....what can I do to solve this...

Those Edelbrock carbs are not too impressive. Sorry, but I say get a good Quadrajet.

God bless, Sensei

Try to change your main jets.
You can try 2 sizes smaller ( primary and secondary ) and see how your engine likes it, or not...
Generally, first signs of too lean mixture are bogs or hesitations. Lazy throttle = rich condition.

Looking only at the spark plugs is not very precise. Some metering circuits of the carb may be rich and others lean.

If you want to be more precise, buy a kit with a wideband O2 sensor. Make a search on the forum...
