No problem on the pictures. If I could only find someone to setup a website for me to share them with everyone.... Those are not bad ratios that you are looking at and are similiar to Chuck's. Just keep the rear at 3.08's.....
They are ideal for a high winding 427! Check your post, you may have a typo. 5th gear should be 1:1 for either the 5 or 6 speed. The 3.27 1st gear really isn't too big. Pulling away from stop signs or creeping in traffic is much easier. The percentage gear change is bigger than using a 3.01, but its only about a 25mph total spread. You will still roast your tires on shift to 2nd, if you want too OR aren't careful!
Re: Yet another Richmond Trans question (Chuck Harmon)
If you need more pics, there are a ton of them on my site. Bill down at Pacific can make you one of his custom removable crossmembers for not too much bread. It was one of the cheapest upgrades we've done & one of the best. Wait until you see the mama jama exhaust system that clears right over it. New pics coming shortly. If you go with the removable, you can then swap a stock one back in later for resale...
Re: Yet another Richmond Trans question (Chuck Harmon)
I have an M20 with a 2.52 1st geat and a 3.55 rear (8.95 total FD) in my 350 convertible and its plenty short. It seems 1st is almost an afterthought. It digs hard but I need to shift pretty quickly. That's almost exactly the same ration as the 3.01 with a 3.08, in fact its a tad deeper. I'm sure I'd be OK with the 3.27 but I think I'd have quite a hard time hooking up.
3.01 vs 3.27 is something I just need to research a little.
