I swapped a while back, and I went with a B&M. From what I remember the TCI were a little cheaper. I have heard good and bad about both. I havent had any problems, but I look back and wonder why I didnt save a few bucks.
I'm running the Hughes GM25 and like it for a cheap converter. Hughes also makes some higher end units as does Art Carr. Ran a custom built Art Carr on my old 383 for years with no problems.
Of the brands that you listed, I would probably go with TCI.
If you are open to other brands, then the Hughes reccomendation that Scott gave you is a good one.
Transmission Specialties also makes some nice converters at good prices as well.
I had a B&M 2500 behind a BB427 in a Monte Carlo...It didn't last long and when it goes the whole trans need to be torn down. I think if there is no shift kit (hard shifts) it will hold up a lot better IMHO.
ok thanks blokes. i have a B&M in my other car and so does my mate and neither of us have any problems a few years down the track and we do give them a flogging , yet i have had a few recommendations against B&M. i would only go the holeshot series converter and thats the only one i have ever used. there is a cheaper one but i think thats more for stock hp cars even though its rated up to a 3000stall.
i will have to look in and see if we can get the HUGHES units over here but probable not.
im also looking in to see if A1 is the same as ACC as my mate here recommended that as well. certainly no shortage of choices.
Nothing wrong with any of your list. I'd avoid the B&M just because (the last time I looked) the price was higher. TCI makes a good unit, as does Hughes. I've used all 3 over the years and not had any bad luck with any. Problems I've had have been the tranny taking a major dump and loading the convertor with trash.
