I have a 1980 L48 with stock carb with key on no power to choke coil. Checked all fuses good is there a fuse link somewhere? When 12 volt applied to coil works fine, looking for a wiring schimatic.

THANKS FOR ANY HELP!
Choke is only hot when key is turned. The source should be a switched source hence the turning of the key. Some of us, myself included, installed an electric choke on their q-jet because they are so much easier.
THANKS SIXFOOTER I think that the colors are the same on my relay.
vette79c3 did your have a exhuast tube style? and did you use a relay or direct to ingnition when you converted it?

I had the hot air choke but converted to electric choke. I used a separate wire from a switched source and the fuse box and strung it through the firewall. A 12/24 v test light comes in handy.

I believe that the choke circuit is only powered when the key is on AND the alternator is producing current. Thus the choke light comes on when key is turned to on (engine not running) and then extinguishes (choke circuit powered) when the engine is running AND the alternator is producing power. I think this was done so that the electric choke heater is only operating when the engine is running.
If that choke heater relay (green, under center console next to the shifter) is buzzing, I would suspect that its the culprit.
I also installed an aftermarket carb (holley) with electric choke and was pleasantly surprised to find this circuit so I didn't have to do it with a manual switch.
The choke on my 80 started acting up and I had the buzzing relay. I ended up using power from the HEI power wire to activate a small relay I mounted on the fire wall 10 years ago and it still works great. With the relay on the firewall you can pull power from the batt connection on the starter or the alternator batt lead.
