Is it possible that when filling the gas tank you can get over flow in the evap lines or vent lines vausing the canister to leak gas???
Thats what happened. For some strange reason today after filling her up, I got in the car, started it and it ran rough, would not idle and died. three times. what the hell???? (Im still sittin at the gas pump). first thought was a plug wire. open the hood, step out and gas is leaking from the bottom of the evap canister. man i cant just sit here, got to get this home. I started the car, still running rough, was able to keep it running by feathering the gas pedal, took off down the road and it finally smoothed out so I pulled over checked, no leak and it idles like it should.
Must of been over flow, right? the canister was not bad before.
I dont think the fuel seperator is failing. everything is brand new including the tank.
My questions is, can this happen due to over fill or over flow?

Thanks for any info
There is a check valve in the separator that is supposed to close to prevent fuel going down the evaporator line. If you have a new separator it sounds like it might be defective. You should be able to fill the tank without gas running down into the evaporative canister.
Last I heard those separators were high dollar used only as no one made them anymore....I think I had one laying around here...but not seen since I reorganized the garage....

Anyone have any thoughts thanks
That happen to me because i used a non-vented cap. And i also run a constant recirc from the fuel line near the carb (well right at the Qjet inlet). After filling the tank a small right turn caused fuel to fill the tank vent and then the vent line to the EVC and then fill up the EVC. Yep, raw fuel was flowing out the top of the EVC right next to my exh header.
Now i run a vented cap and try not fill the tank too. Also replaced that liquid spill valve (just a check valve really) on the tank vent line. Check your fuel cap and make sure u have a vented cap.
Mine had same problem first time starting up after winter storage this year. I installed new separator on a new tank with all new lines when I restored a 73 two years ago. After opening up gas cap and reinstalling, problem went away. I suspect it was venting of cap problem although I can't reproduce the problem. Keen Parts had new separator valves available.
