Default Engine swap question

I can get a fresh rebuilt 396 out of a late 80's MonteCarlo SS that was smashed in the *** and written off.

So the question is whats the deal with swapping that in my '78. tired L82, 3spd car?

All the swaps I read about are something other than the 396.

Comments?

Anything is possible............the last Big Block in a Vette was 1974. It may take some engineering !

The Monte Carlo never had a 396. That engine did not come in that car, so you need to find out where it came from.

You should be able to tell if its a big block or small block, just look at it.

Get the casting date and block number off of it.

There's nothing that says its not a POS 396. Could be a good reason why its a $500 engine.
