I put in a new BTO 2004R and they recommended using the cheapest Dextron (II or III??) on sale but change the fluid and filter at the recommended mileage and at a minumum once each year. Given the investment I've made with my BTO level 3, I'm going with BTO's suggestion.
All I can add is please don't use any Type F fluid in a GM trans that you want to last. The type F fluid does not have the lube qualities that Dexron has. It's hard on GM's bearing, bushings, and clutches.
And before someone jumps my case with "I"ve been using Type F for years with no problems", I've had several GM trannys apart that were run with Type F- the bearings were not useable, and the clutch plates were coming apart.
My rebuilder told me if GM put Dextron in about a gazillion vehicles, it would be fine for my application. Why spend the extra money if you don't have to?
