I just received my tires from Tire Rack, (255/60/15). I think I will put these on the rear. I also was thinking about ordering 2 more tires but in the size of 225/70/15 for the front. Does anybody have these combination on their C-3?
255/60/15- BACK
275/70/15- FRONT
How does it handle?
How does it look?
Any and all feedback would be greatly appreciated?
Sorry for the mistake, I have NOT been to bed yet! I meant to say 225/70/15
for the front and 255/60/15 for the back. Would that be a good combination and how would it look ?
I have 225/70R15 at all 4 corners on mine. They are tall and skiny. At some angles it looks like the rim is wider than the tire! I would suggest using the 245/60R15.
I have the 255-60's all around, No problem with rubbing, although some have had that problem. A lot of it depends on how good your suspension is.
245's in the front would be a good choice too.
The problem is Firestone does not make the Firehawk SS20 in a 245/60/15. I want something that will fit, handle correctly, and look good to. I hate to go with another tire just to get 245/60/15!!!
Your only real option is to go with the 235/60/15 up front. This will be both narrower and much shorter, but would still look good. I used to run 265/50's up front and 255/60's in the rear when I had the GT Qualifiers before I switched to Firestone. That was probably the best combo. The 265/50's were slightly wider than the 255/60's, but not enough to notice unless you really looked hard. It gave the car a nice stance, but I really wanted the abiltiy to rotate the tires. Because of the camber in the rear, the back tires need to be rotated once in a while or they aren't going to last very long. That is why I decided to go with the same size at all four corners for the fist time in 16years. I recommend that you give the 255/60 a try up front before you commit to smaller tires. The 255/60 fit in the front in most cases, but mine rub very slightly on some bolt heads in the wheel well.
If you must have wide tires on the front, I would try the 255s you have now and see if they rub. If they do, forget about it, order the 235s and put the 255s on the back. I have the 235 front / 255 back combo on my car and it looks fine. No mis-matched wheel well gaps (but the 235s do look a little skinny to me). I would be very leery of ANY rubbing of a tire on a frame/suspension member. You're just asking for it if you allow that (especially on the sidewalls).
So, your fronts will be 30mm (a little more than 1") narrower than the backs. That'd probably look good. I don't know how much it would affect handling.
And the fronts would be 9mm (a bit more than 1/3") taller (only 4mm sidewall difference). Probably not noticeable.
