I have taken to becoming a student of the Vietnam war in the last couple of years. I have read many a book, seen many documentatries and try to get information from anyone that was there.
All I can say is that you guys were under-appreciated at that time. People don't realize what it was like to be there - including me. You guys saw things never seen, lost limbs, lost lives only to come back to a hostile public here. Not sure that the words Thank You are enough.

In 91 I was reactivated for Desert storm and recieved a star on my national defence ribbon. Vietnam and Iraq vet. USN

I've been very saddened that we have a government system that does not look out for it's own citizens.

Please don't think I was disrespectful in any way. I am a Viet Nam era Veteran. I've had many, many friends that I've lost in the past 34 years since I wrote that blank check for Uncle Sam. I'm very glad he chose not to cash it in.

All Veterans write and sign (in case you're not sure what I mean) a blank check to the US military when they take the oath of enlistment. That check states that you are signing over your life to do your job. I have one of the best wives in the world. Both of my boys have repeatedly told me that they wouldn't change anything about their lives at all. They've done more at age 12-15 than most people do in their entire lives. I've been blessed with a great military family, those that have one, understand. Those that have one, just might have a tear in their eye, just as I do right now. I am a blessed man,
Thank you to all the Veterans for making this still the best country in the galaxy

Formerly known as Decoration Day, it commemorates U.S. men and women who died while in the military service. While I really appreciate the gratitude to all of us veterans, especially since those of us who served during the Vietnam era were not appreciated at the time, I think it misses the point that Memorial day is to honor those who gave their life. We veterans who merely served have our own holiday in November. It is Veterans Day.

By God your Right[ My 76 Ray] I didnt even think about that.

On the wall From My Squad:

Reginald (Reggie) Powell Buck seargeant ,my Squad leader And incredible Person. KIA while on operation around BenTre in march 1968. From Modesto California

Steve Giacoppo , Sp4 Killed in action March 1968 Mekong delta, dont remember where. Never knew where he was from.

I feel foolish and embarrased for making monday My day, But My friends Killed in the RVN I think about almost Every Day anyway, we all know who the Heroes are.

Ditto for me 79 vetter. Tough to watch those medivac flights day after day arrive with all the wounded still in fatigues, some in iron lungs, then having to leave the main gate and put up with protesters spitting on your car. I may never understand, but I will be eternally grateful for all those patriots who sacrificed themselves. Memorial Day is reserved for those who paid the ultimate price.

USAF/AFTAC 1977-1997. Proud to have served our country. My son is in the AF now and serving his second assignment in the Middle East. Just like our Vettes we might need a little work here and there but, we're still Vets and stick together!
