Default No Spark

My engine is not starting. I just had a 400 short block built, I finished the build using the HEI distributor from last years 350 and I'm not getting a spark. The terminal that goes to the battery slot on the distributor is hot. I got a couple farts out of it initially but now nothing.
Is there a way to check the distributor to see if the coil is bad?
Thanks everyone

There is a terminal by the power wire at the HEI for tach. Put your test light on that terminal while cranking it, it should flash, if not and you have bat power at the other terminal than the module is bad. If it flashes and still no spark, then it could be the coil or maybe the rotor.

thanks a bunch. I'll throw the light on it tomorrow and go from there. I figured it was somewhere in the distributor but I had no idea how to diagnose it.
thanks again and have a great holiday.
