Default 78 Center Console Wiring Help

I'm replacing the center gauge cluster console, and came across a wire that "Bubba" capped off, and I'm having a hard time identifying it. It's an orange wire that splits via a blue connector, located just behind center console - pic attached below.

Any help identifying the purpose of this wire would be greatly appreciated!

Orange wire in that vicinity is most likely the constant hot lead to a FACTORY power antenna and would terminate at the relay under the parking brake cover all the way to the rear.
That blue connector is not factory. Probably someone's attemp to tap into a hot lead to power something else. Radio memory perhaps?

Orange wire is for the power ant. Here is a link to all the 78' wiring diagrams

Thanks KapsSA and Gary - that's a great site! Mystery solved...

Doug - if you find out where your Heater/AC light wiring is, drop me a note. My old center gauge console has the light guide attached, but no socket, bulb or the black and gray wires anywhere to be found.... If you know where those wires come from, please let me know.

The center bezel housed the heater control lamp on 78-82 cars.

It consisted of the following:

Lens http://willcoxcorvette.com/product_i...ducts_id=17055

Housing http://willcoxcorvette.com/product_i...ducts_id=17056

Bulb http://willcoxcorvette.com/product_i...ducts_id=26366

Bulb Holder http://willcoxcorvette.com/product_i...ducts_id=25916

And a jumper harness that plugged in to the main wire harness. This is what makes the lamp work:

Hope this helps you.

Yup! The bulb is pushed in the connector shown above just like a dash bulb on a 1978-1982 but had the special tip. I'm sorry, I did post the wrong picture and link.

I think it should take the that fisheye type bulb.

edit- I'll go out in the shop and check but I think it has a GM part number only.

edit#2 - the number I have is GM #9433183 or Delco #L558

I believe it's the bulb that has the "magnification" on the tip. I've read that the standard 194 bulb won't work very well to illuminate the HVAC controls.

Gotta be the fisheye type.

I put a type 194 in that spot a few weeks ago, it isn't bright enough by far.

Does anyone know where the Heater/AC light harness plugs into the main wire harness? Unfortunately, these components were removed in the past, and I can't find the location to plug the light harness into. Any help is appreciated.

I did find the thread below that shows a great picture of the light and how it attaches to the center upper console, but am trying to locate the terminating end location.
