I just bought a used Wiper Door for my 68 and it has 1/4-20 threads in it but mine has 10-24 threads.. Did they change the thread size or can I assume someone opened up the holes and re-tapped them large on this one?
INteresting as myh '72 came with 5/16-18 thread bolts about 15 years ago...and not shouldered, understand they should be...but mine work fine...
I cheat though...I slotted the ends of the bolts years ago, then screw them in from the end of the door when it's up....then secure with RTV to keep bolt from backing out....

Bubba! its YOU!
On to the subject, the wiper door can be repaired with thread inserts to the proper size to allow you to run the OUTRAGEOUSLY priced 10-24 shoulder bolts and correct nylon washers for a free and QUIET movement of your wiper door or you can go with 5/16" and no nylon bushings and WEAR OUT all your wiper actuator linkage in a short time. Your decsion.

Came that way 15 years ago....no changes....it's quiet, if you can hear that door, your exhaust is too quiet....
all I did was slot the screws to facilitate repair ease....OH, been a daily driver for some 100k miles ++ now...
Well at least I know what size inserts I'll probably end up having to buy. 3 of the 4 shoulder bolts snapped off when I took my door off during my motor swap and cleanup. I'll try a easy out if they make one small enough but chances of success are slim with that small of a bolt. may have to drill out and use inserts. Probably a good idea to slot the things while l'm replacing them for insurance. Thanks mrvette
