Default Momo Steering Wheel

Does anyone know how to wire up the horn with an aftermarket steering wheel (Momo, Sparco, etc.)? I've got the original wheel off but can't seem to get the Momo horn to work.

I played around with the horn again last night... couldn't sleep with this lingering around in my head.

Am I correct saying that the top contact pad is the ground and once the spring contacts it it completes the circuit? I noticed when I touched it with a screwdriver and the metal part of the steering column the horn would sound. But if I touched either or both of the lower contacts and the metal part of the steering column...nothing happened. This is really racking my brain!!!!!

It's been a while, but I think that is correct. The button grounds itself when you insert it into the wheel. Pushing the horn button completes the circuit. I have Momo steering wheels in all of my sports cars. Your gonna love it.

How did you wire it up? The Momo horn button has 2 wires (one in, one ground out). With the orignal horn not having wires only the three contact points how did you connect it?

If you changed the hub, they should have provided you with a 'spring contacter' that goes it the ~3/8" hole, through to the contact circle below. It would also have a wire coming out of the the back of it to connect to the center lead on the new horn.

It's actually part of the hub, so is there if your using the stock hub. if Momo has there own hub, they should have some way to make horn contact. the spring loaded contact is pretty much standard, industry wide.

Is it roughly the same size as the oem spring contact (about 3" at the point it contacts with the hub???).

I think the steering column has three contact points for the horn, so does the spring contact all three?

Any chance you have a picture of the part I'm missing?

Thanks

Do I need to drill a few holes in my new momo hub to make the horn work with this spring? ALternatively I could just snap off the plastic and hope the spring tension is enough to make sure there's contact between the hub and the horn contacts?!?! Ideas anyone.....

The horn activates by grounding the wire in the steering column. You should be able to test easily enough by grounding different connection points.

My Sparco wheel has an all plastic horn button so I would need to connect factory lead to one side then a ground connection on the other terminal (if I were going to use it.)

Being the kind of guy I am, I am making a quick release wheel so I can preserve my tilt-tele column in my 72 LT-1 and still get in-out of my race seat. I am re-engineering the entire quick release and steering wheel adapter systems to "something of my own creation" which will further delay the deployment of the "Green Meanie" until next year's season.

hmmmmmm, so how do I get to the pesky factory lead wire.

I've taken the oem hub off and all I see are contact points. Please don't tell me I need to strip that column down further!!

I was thinking of connecting the large spring to the new hub, and then soldering a wire to it to make the lead connection for the new horn. Providing I feed it through the plastic sleeve, I think it should work. I've got no problem grounding the new horn switch. It's that bloody lead wire I'm scratching my head over.
