Well, I went to go bleed the brakes in my car after my pedal got really spongy recently... Hit the bleeders with some WD40, waited a while and went to try to loosen them. All 4 of the rear bleeders screws broke on me with barely any effort! Luckily they did not loosen at all, and wont leak any fluid; and i was able to bleed the front brakes and got a hard pedal back.
But, what now!? What are my options with the broken bleeders screws or am I just going to have to get new calipers?
TIA - Chris
its the easiest rout.. i did that before on one caliper... sucked! just to go kragen and get their remanufactured calipers, trade in your old ones for the core charge, i think they were like 80 bucks each..
Auto Zone or Advance has calipers for 60 bucks exchange and carry a lifetime guarantee. The broken screws are no problem with exchange. That way there is no repackaging and sending heavy cores to one of the Vette suppliers boosting the prices. The freight would eat you up both ways and makes no sense to mail order those parts...Plus you get immediate credit. ...
You might try soaking with PB Blaster for a few days or try that new Freeze stuff, then try an Easy-Out. But my experience with Easy-Outs would prompt me to go buy new calipers.
AMEN HE says is RIGHT (been there done that). Go the easy route and replace.. Time for repalcement any way and check your steel brake lines too!
Good Luck
