I've known stngry63 for years and beleive me he's a bit looney. I don't know if all the c2ers are this way but all he does is complain about his loud mufflers and his 60 mph shimmy. Must be old age

Some posts seem to be advising the use of the Richmond 5 in his application. It probably isn't a good match. I purchased my Richmond and hooked it up to 3.08 gears so that I could have the fun of the close ratios and still have a sane time on extended interstate driving. Also, the low first gear is great in traffic. My engine pulls strongly to 6,500 rpm. From experience, an engine needs to pull strongly to at least 6,000 if performance is the issue with installing a Richmond in front of a 3.08. An engine that pulls strongly right off idle and runs out of steam at 5,000 rpm can't take advantage of the low overall gearing in first with the Richmond. It'll be like a granny gear in a truck; you can't get out of the gear fast enough. That's why I think that a wide ratio M-20 or T-10 behind his low rpm motor with a broad torque curve is a better choice. It's cheaper and probably just as fast if not faster. I consider an M-21, with 2.20 first, with a 3.70 and up as close ratio. Maybe, it's wide to others.

69shark,

The 5 speed is a little easier to install because the 6 speed in about 1.5 inches longer causing a few minor inconveniences. You can buy a factory shifter handle copy that will bolt up to the Hurst, (or even the Longs with minor modification). No one will know unless you tell them.
Or unless they drive it...

Well my motor is a some what stock 350/300 I plan on an Edelbrock performer that's waiting in the garage and headers/exhaust this summer. Right now I have 3.08's and it seems to feel like it's going to take off at 75-80mph and around 3500-4000rpm, this is why I would like to do a 5 speed. My 93 has 2.59's with the 4L60 and at 145mph I think it was turning around 4500rpm which is kind of nice. What would you guys recommend for me?

How about the Tremec TKO?

3.27 1st , 1:1 4th and .68 5th OD. $1975 from Fortes up in MA.

Little bit of modding in terms of shifter location and driveshaft shortening. But overall, not too bad (after a bit of :smash: and lots of  ). I hope to have mine running by the end of the month. Engine, tranny are in, driveshaft at shop, working on shifter tomorrow, still got to put a bunch of parts back together.
