Default Distributor general tune up questions

I am doing plugs and wires right now. I was thinking about replacing the distributor and other components with an MSD kit or the equivelent. Would you just do the tune up with something like this

or would you go the whole 9 yards and upgrade with a new distributor, coil, etc like this one

http://www.jegs.com/i/MSD/121/8360K/10002/-1

Everything on my Vette is original. The motor is in good shape, 75k original miles, so I thought these may help out performance wise. Am I just wasting money or would this be an ok upgrade to the current system in the car?

On a completely stock engine it is not really going to benefit you. If you aren't spinning the engine at very high RPM's or haven't gone to a much higher compression it isn't going to be much bang for the buck.

Surely a new cap and rotor will help out, but then optimize the timing for your driving style and current configuration.

You would get a better return performance wise from a new cam kit, just nothing radical because of the low compression and other stock parts.
