Hello I am new to the forum... My uncle owns a 77 vette and the tach started to run backwards??? Then it quit... Any Ideas? I dont know much about vettes I have never been able to buy one.. I wish I could afford one to restore with my son I believe the corvette is truly an american Icon.... Sorry to ramble ant Ideas on the tach?
It sounds to me like the tach board is bad and will need to be replaced.
The tach only has three wires running to it, a power, ground and signal wire.
With power and ground hooked up and no signal wire the tach would go to zero. Basically you can create this by just turning the key to the on position and not starting the car.
For the tach to run backwards there is good chance the board is shorted out.
Here is how you change the board! This is for a 78-82 but it is almost the same install except you do not have to transfer the studs from the old board! A real Pain in the rear to get out of the car, easy to install the board!
Thank you.. Right now the tach is stuck at max rpm not zero... I will start with the tach board... It will be me doing it since he does not know how to work on cars...
