This weekend I need to replace both rear calipers. Does anyone have any suggestions with a brand or type I should go with. Should I buy a set of OEM Delco 4-piston calipers or something else? I'm not looking to spend a great deal of cash on the best available, but at least have the same stopping power as originals. Thanks for the info. (one day, perhaps, I too will be one of the gurus whom always answer my questions, but until then thanks for all of your help :) )
Invest in stainless steel sleeved calipers with Zero Tolerance o ring pistons. They will be the last ones you'll ever buy. VB offers a version of this but ZT's pistions are a bit larger and slightly superior, IHMO.
I'm not the one who raised the question, but THANK YOU for your response. These prices are incredible, compared to other places I have checked. I'm ordering my calipers today.
If you don't want to go with stock calipers, you can get brackets to use Wilwood Dynalite calipers for just a little more. http://www.heidts.com/heifram1.htm Much lighter than stock. Forum member 427v8 makes and sells front brakets http://temp.corvetteforum.net/c3/427v8/wilwood.shtml. Summit has the calipers, these guys just have the brackets.
Thanks a ton for this info. I called but they were busy so I sent them an email. I hope they have a storefront so that I can drive over there tomorrow and get the parts asap. Thanks again, wish me luck :)
I wasnt able to get up with VP tonight, but I did get in contact with Precision Engineering, the manufacturers of the brakes. I will be driving cross state tomorrow pick them up, and the guy (I missed his name unfortunately) I talked to even offered to open up shop on Sunday if needed. I have never had a bad experience from any of the other companies I have ever used, but this just made my day. :)
I have a set of their calipers and am quite happy with them. They are located near where I live and I've gotten to know the founder of the business, Carl Shuhi. He's got his head screwed on straight, in my opinion.
By the by, Carl's the one who put together the differential I currently can't seem to break.
I actually ran into vettepartsonline by accident. I had already purchased a full set of supposedly special design oring pistons from another vendor. Was looking for the cheapest price for SS braided hoses when I got to vettepartsonline. Called to order and talked to Carl. In our conversation I mentioned how crappy the pistons I got were, I had seen the real thing (zero tolerance) at Corvette shows but did not know where to get them. He clued me in to caliper 2000 pistons and sent me a full set and said "pay me if you like them, send them back if you don't" I got a UPS delivery a couple of days later and these pistons were just awesome. Did a complete setup in my SS calipers with DOT5 and the brakes are great. Also called to talk with Carl on the exact installation procedure. Very helpful and great customer service.
