Does a 1979 corvette small block have a transmission drain plug, or do i have to remove the whole pan? also, what could cause a car to accelerate sluggishly? The car revs fine when parked, and accelerates normally when the pedal is pressed slightly, but when the pedal goes more than halfway, it barely moves. It feels as if it is going to cut off. any help is appreciated. thanks

I have yet to see a stock drain plug for a TH350, TH400, or 700R4. You have to drop the pan and make a huge mess regardless of how careful you are. Each time I've changed my tranny fluid/filter, I buy a new pan with a drain plug so I never have to deal with that again... at least on the same car.
Regarding your acceleration issue, I'd say your timing is off. Probably running too rich. See BarryK's stickied Timing post (if you haven't already) and follow it to a T. It helped the reliability and performance of my vette a great deal.
No plug. So, since I was going to get wet with tranny fluid anyway, I took the pan off, put in the TCI fliter / extension and put on a TCI deep pan with plug.

The reason why auto trans don't come withs drain plugs is to require the pan to be dropped and have the filter replaced. I use a fluid pump that attachés to a drill and run one of the tubes down the dip stick tube and pump out about a gallon of fluid so I can remove the pan with no mess.

I never did get that reasoning. The lack of a drain plug just forces you to drain the fluid to get at the filter. You still don't have to replace the filter just because you lowered the pan, it's kind of a "while I'm there" thing.
A drain plug would make it all a little neater though.
