I'm installing a stock fuel pump in my '69 427 390HP motor. The former owner had an electric pump installed from the tank, so I've got no reference to check and my assembly manual only has 350 instructions.
Does the 427 pump use a pump plate in addition to the gaskets like a 350?
If not, how many gaskets are used between the fuel pump base and the block? My stock pump only came with one.
I've been told to use black silicone gasket sealant on the gasket and bolts. Any other suggestions?
No plate on a BB. 2 bolts, 3/8 standard coarse thread, 1-1/4 long. There's a plug under the mount pad, take that out to access the pushrod. Swipe it thru the grease and stuff it back in the hole (grease holds it in place) stick the gasket on the pump with some weatherstrip adhesive (3M 8001), then bolt it up. No sealer needed on the bolts, they're blind tapped in the block. Make up a fuel line from 3/8 brake tubing ~ the fitting in the pump is a 3/8 inverted flare, same as the brake tubing has on it, and then bend and fit as needed. If you flare it yourself, if you use a 3/8 inverted flare (Q-jet) make sure you do the correct double flare. PLEASE don't use a rubber line between the pump and carb.
