Installation: L36 427 BB, running CompCams milder Thumpr cam. Stock cast exhaust manifolds, 2-1/2 duals, no H or X crossover, Magnaflow mufflers from CC, 2-1/2 in, 2" out, stock tips.
Sound: Pleased with the sound in all situations except at idle. At idle, the underlying deep tone is fine, but it's overlayed with a constant piff-pfaff-poof-ffaff, like an old tractor. Not impressive or pleasant. And, no, it's not a leaking connection at that's been checked.
Any experiences, tips, recommendations much appreciated!

It is reversion caused by the close LSA of the thumper cam.
I had some Magnaflows once. Sounded like puppy farts through a pillow. They lasted one day on my Camaro. Went with my old standby, Dynomax Super-Turbos. Perfect for my taste. Deep mellow muscle car tone.
I had the same problem. It wasn't the exhaust, it was the intake manifold, letting air in, at the gasket. I re-tightened all the bolts to torque spec, and the problem, was resolved. Hope this helps.
