Default 72 column help needed

When I turn my key my car is not starting. I replaced swith, because it was starting when the barrel would be on its wayback. Re-aligned the gear with metal rod, but I think the rod is not actuating something in the lower column. I have a book but it does not show the bottom column apart. Is therea switch that the rod controls to start the car. I also need information on where to find a rebuild kit, or someone who rebuilds them. I have only found the wiring harness and nothing else.

You advice would be appreciated

Do you have a standard (non-adjustable) steering column or a T&T? The two columns operate on the same principles but they are different from each other. The ignition lock cylinder is the part that you stick your key into and it is located in the column head. (The lock cylinder is the same for both the standard column and the T&T.) The ignition switch is mounted down under the dash on top of the steering column jacket. (The ignition switches are different between standard and T&T columns.)

You most likely are going to have to pull the steering column from the car in order to replace the ignition switch and adjust it properly.

There are a series of three papers and three pictures that are posted at Terry Rudy's websight www.corvettefaq.com

You need to click on Jim Shea's Steering Papers

There are also some blowup drawings of both type steering columns in that same section. It will be most helpful if you can use some of the same terminology that is used in the paper and pics since the steering columns (and parts) are somewhat complicated.
