Default Removeable Rear Window Troubles

My rear window doesn't seem to fit. I had to loosen the bolts on the latchs and slide them all the way forward (towards the front of the car) to get the window to clear them as it swung into place (after plaing the tabs in the bottom slots). Now when it's in place, the latches don't clamp down tight on the frame. I have to slide them back again.

This can't be normal. It sure seems like the window is just a bit too big. Or maybe it's not seating in the bottom. Could the weatherstripping be too "big" so it doesn't seat well?

I would have to say that you are not seating the studs in the bottom of the window channels.

I converted my 73 and do not have any problems.

Did you put a new molding in there? If Not I have to think you have the molding pinched somehow. Mine goes in really easy!

I had to adjust my lower mounts after replacing the wstrip. The wstrip wouldn't let the pegs push in all the way. Here's a diagram: http://www.71corvette.com/cn-apr/27.jpg

I agree with the other comments. Check to make certain that the bottom of the window is resting on the plates that the pins go through. If the weatherstripping is even a 1/16" low then the window will go not down without help. If needed use a small screwdriver to compress the wetherstripping as the window is put in place. After the first seating of the window the weatherstripping will hold the shape needed to allow the window to fit properly.

Thanks guys. Sounds like the vote is for the weatherstripping. It didn't seem to be too high but I'll take a closer look.
