Default A night at the track

Went out to speed world in Phoenix Wednesday. Got the ol' 75 down to 14.698 at 93. The last best time was 15.3 at 90. I put a set of SR/Torqers on and adjusted the throttle cable so that it actually opened the butterflys all the way. There was a guy out there with a yellow 79 with side pipes and he was running a 13.8. There was a lot of fast rice out too. One was running twelves and a few were in the 13s. There was even a neon running 13.5. I'm happy so far. I still have the iron exaust manifolds and crappy single exaust system. I should be close to 13s with a good duel exaust system. One thing I did notice that I got better times if I shifted right at 6000rpm as opposed to 6300. I was leaving it in second gear because I was so close to the end of the track that I figured I wouldn't bother. Turns out I was wrong. One really cool thing is that I lined up with an orange late 90s mustang GT and smoked it twice. He would launch harder cause he had a stick and a set of hoosier slicks. He would jump out to about a cars length and then I would reel him in as my RPM built. That was kind of a neat thing. I was actually faster than several newer mustang GTs that were there. Those things must be seriously over-rated. My friend took his 96 TA out also. Did a best of 13.0something. He could have had twelves but he couldn't figure out how to launch. It was fun and I got in five runs! We need to get all the phoenix guys together at speed world some night to really show the ricers whats up.

i think you could lower your times, if you stuck it on a dyno... just so you can see your peak rpms...

Good point ZD, I was only guessing at peak power. It has a older comp cams 270H grind and if i recal, it peaked at about 6200. Maybe next time I'll try shifting at 5500. I'm not sure where the Torquer's peak out.

You have more HP than me Warp70, you should be able to pull low 14s if not high 13s. Some nights at speed world if you go to test and tune when there are no money races going on you can run as many times as you can get in line. I could have made 10 runs if i wanted to. I just peaked and wasn't getting any faster so I didn't bother, Its fun to watch anyway.
