Can someone please tell me how to replace the fuel fiter in my '82 Vette? I mean I know how to remove the filter itself but what do I need to do to prepare for the removal? I don't want a huge gas spill. My car has been stalling while cruising around town. This one time it stalled and I restarted it, drove 50 ft and stalled again, tried starting it and it wouldn't fire up until the 4th-5th try; drove a bit further and stalled, started right up and drove 2 miles to home with no problems. The car had been sitting for 4 months before this. My first thought was the fuel filter but now that I think about it, it could be the fuel pump too. Hmmm...
So how do I replace the fuel filter? Thanks for the help!
EDIT: Nevermind. I found out how.

Let us know how it goes but I would bet it's the little rubber hose on the fuel pump that is bad.
Due to the filter being lower than the gas tank, when you crack the line for the filter, gas will start running and will not stop until you have the filter installed back on both ends. Ask me how I know....
Be prepared with a catch pan or you will have a garage full of gas on the floor. My catch pan had a serious amount of gas in it as it took several minutes to get the rubber line back on over the steel line-due to steel line location.
The upstream gas line is tight against the frame and a bi*ch to get the line back on it-especially with gas pouring out of it and running down your arm to your head, all of which will be lower than the line while your trying to install it.
my car had the same problum, ran the same way. I also changed the fuel filter, but it didnt change things. then i changed the fuel pump with an 85 pump and the car has been running great since then, going on two years now. changeing the pump isnt too hard, good luck
