I finally took a ride in my neighbors 69 Olds VERT 442 last night. Wholey cow  that car is fast. He would goose it at about 40 and the tires would break loose.
Wild ride for 4000 lb car.

I had a 67 442 - my first new car. Wow, that was a great car. Fast, great suspension and it would cruise at 80 and get 17MPG.
If I could find it, I'd consider trading the Vette. But probably only consider......

Ah the memories. Had a 68 442 (new), 68 W-31 (Ram Rod 350), and later a 70 442, W-30 with 455 cubes, 4 speed and 4.33 gears, a quarter mile demon and cruised smooth at 70 even. :D :D :D :D

I love my Vette, but my Cutlass beats it every time in a straight line. Not a real fair comparison since it has a 455 compared to my ZZ4 in the vette. The cutlass isn't original (actually it's prostreeted) and it runs 12.0 @ 115mph in the 1/4. Its got an incredible amount of torque - can break my "street tires" (15x18" Mickey Thompsons) loose at 50 mph. Hope to get it to a dyno this spring after I get some new Edelbrock heads. Can't wait to see what it actually produces. http://temp.corvetteforum.net/c3/gre...thertoys.shtml
Re: I rode in a 11 second 442 last night. (Jason Staley)
My first muscle car build up at age 20 was a 71 Cutlass coupe(not fast back). I dropped in a 69 Tornado 10.5 to1 455 with factory 6qt pan. Home ported the heads and filled it with goodies from Joe Mondello. I had a Th400 with 2500stall and 3.73 limited slip. Huge tq. It was fun to pull off from a light gentally, then and begin your burnout on the shift into second. It got boring sometimes being unable to find someone to race on the street. I mean real competition that is. I was always especially willing to take on Vettes. I won more than I lost thats for sure. Im suprised I actually survived all that. Till this day I still have a love for the Cutlass. I invision myself owning another someday.

I forgot to mention his neighbor has 60'ess Cutlass and we picked up a 455 with turbo 400 for him. The motor was complete with belts for a whopping $150 smackers.   The monster almost broke the engine lift.
Now there will be two 11 second Olds cruising the streets of McKinney
