Default which high rise hood?

Hey all, i need to buy a higher rise hood for my 80. i only need an inch and a half or so of extra clearance. I am wondering what options are out there??

i kind of like the looks of the "stinger hood" from ecklers, but from what i hear, its a PITA making it fit (having to bend the core support), and it isnt higher rise then stock.

I'm thinking of buying this hood from Ecklers. Anyone running this hood? Anyone have one for sale on the West Coast? I'd love to go and pick one up. I think it has somewhere between 2" to 4" increased clearance over stock.

I'm running a hi-rise twin turbo on Fast81. RPM AIRGAP, TBI, 3" air cleaner and still .5"-1" room above that.

Beejay -- I traded a guy my old stock hood for hi-rise stock version (even up) a few yrs ago. His 80 had it on when he bought it - he was waiting to repaint (whole car) to replace the hood but didn't want to spend the $$$ buying a new stock one. WIN-WIN.
Its going on my 82 ragtop project (hopefully to cover an LS/maggie).

I like the more aggressive/stock look of it.

Any pictures of it? Was it an Ecklers?

The stock hi-rise is un-installed as it is in storage with Fast81 in MN while my project is here in MA. I can get you some this weekend as i will be home visiting.

Re-checked Ecklers website, it isn't THEIR hi-rise design It is the Corvette Central 80's hi-rise design. It did look good with the stock body lines. You had to look closely to tell it was hi-rise. The CCental site says it gives 1-1.5" more clearance than stock

Hey, I like that hood. The pictured hood is in yellow. You should ship that hood out to me. Bowerss2 should like this hood also because it follows the 80-82 hood lines. Corvette Central has some good prices. Thanks for the link.

the ones mentioned are nice! there are some really tall ones, but in my opinion some of them look a little goofy once they get past a certain height. some do look good though, guess it depends on the stance and wheel/tire setup on the car too.

beejay, i was looking at the lt hood a while back and couldn't find any pictures of one on a c3......let me know if you find a pic i'd still like to see one on a c3, too late for me though i bought the typical l88 hood for mine a while back.

I haven't had much luck interchanging hoods and getting them to fit. For instance, the original SB hood on my 68 fits excellently. I tried to replace it with a factory stock undamaged 69 BB hood and that hood did not fit, even though it fit wellon the 69. I once bought a L88 hood and had fitment problems. (can't remember exactly who i bought it from).

Are there two versions of repro L88 hoods now being sold? One is original height and one has more clearance. Anyone know who makes the extended clearance repro hood?

I think the problem with hood fit lies with the inner wheel wells that are bonded to the front quarter panels. The hood bolts to the inner wheel well structure, so I imagine moving it up and down can be used to make the hood fit perfectly (if it's going to fit.)

I love the L-88 style hood. Mine has a ton of clearance. If you want pics just ask, lots of us on this forum have that style hood.

Hey I just bought a Hi-Rise hood from Corvette South. They were cheaper than Eckler's and the good news is it came from Ecklers. The hood required very little sanding. I have a Edelbrock RPM performer intake with a Holley 650 DP, 3" K&N airfilter with the extreme top and I still have about 3 inches of clearance. Here is a link to the hood I bought:

Default I had to buy an L88 hood from Ecklers

because of clearance issues. It gives me 4". The LT-1 hood does not give that much clearance, I think around 3.25". It fits well also on my '71 vert.
