Default Steering question

1077 L48, 350. I've noticed recently that the steering on my car feels a little jerky at times. Not always, but every now and then, when I make a left or right hand turn from a dead stop, the steering wheel feels a little jerky. It feels to me like it's in the power steering unit somewhere. I had my wife turn the wheels while I looked underneath, and nothing seems to be binding up. Power steering fluid level is good. It did it once when I was backing out of my garage, and I noticed a small puddle of power steering fluid, but it doesn't do it all the time. Sometimes it last maybe thirty seconds, then it smooths out again. Could my power steering pump be going out??? I replaced all four power steering hoses about 6 months ago, so I don't think they're the problem. Also, the cylinder that two of the hoses attach to, could it be going bad?? Driving in a straight line, the car seems fine, and tracks perfectly. It's just at slow speeds and turning from a stop.

If it happens in both right and left turns then it is most likely the pump. The next place to look would be the assist cylinder. Unfortunately, the only part that can be replaced on the cylinder is the rod seal. It is accessable by removing a snap ring and digging out the scrapers and seal. The piston seal inside the cylinder is not serviceable since the cylinder is welded together.
