I removed my battery as after a few weeks messing about, and not starting it, it needed a wee charge, on replacing, this morning and looking forward to a cruise, there is no power, the rev counter turns the wrong way and it doesn't start any ideas? and yes the terminal are the correct way round and its a new large bosch battery with the green indicator looking good on top! Help Help, I'm desperate to get it out and about!!!
Recheck the battery cables for correct polarity. Follow the cable that connects to the frame just under the battery box back inside the battery box and make sure that is connected to the Neg. term of the battery.
Hello, had a look, the terminals are round the correct way, the earth cable go dircetly to the frame and the nuts are tight both on that and the starter.
You could have popped the fusible link. Do your headlights work, the reason I ask is some cars have a seperate link for the headlights ? How many wires come off the large lug at the solenoid the one that has the large battery cable on it ?

I have 1 large wire and a ring terminal with 2 smaller wires to that.
I think your 76 has several fusible links. You really should find a good wiring diagram. I would highly recommend a DocRebuild diagram it will show you exactly how many links you have and exactly where they are in your car. You should have maybe 2 down at the starter and at least one at the bulkhead connector just under the brake booster.
Here is a thread where we were talking about a 76 with fusible link problems. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c3-t...al-issues.html
You didn't by chance charge the battery backwards? It's possible to do by charging a dead or almost dead battery with the cables hooked backwards. You might try running the battery completely dead, and then recharge it, red cable from charger to positive post and black to ground.
My 76 corvette battery was discharge so it was removed and charged it, on refitting the battery, the car won't start although I do have ignition power all the lights and electrics work until you turn the key to start the motor, the starter seems to fire, but doesn't even turn the engine a quarter turn, and it dies draining all the power(the rev counter at this point tries to turn anti clockwise) I have checked the battery earth to the frame, the fuseable links are ok as i wouldn't have any power, I have put a new battery in and tried that and still no power, I have spoken to a american car dealer here and he says 100% battery or earth problem, althought I have a few service books and manuals does any one have any ideas or a list of all the earthing points and locations and I would go through them one at a time....
Still an on going problem, and during the not very often nice summer weather.... horrible that the car won't move.....
Try taking your jumper cables and attaching one of the black connectors to the neg terminal of the battery and the other black connector to a place on the frame that you can make a good connection and then try to start the car.
All this started when you removed 2 battery cable connections-correct ? Make certain the connections are making a good connection-its easy to get fooled. Your description of the starter engaging and then going dead matches dirty or bad battery connections or a bad connection at the solenoid.
I'm afraid nothing, its hard to say but it may be a stronger now, but not actually starting the motor, I tried 2 batterys, the original and a new one witha booster(starter pack) on it too!
oh just read the the post again, I never checked the solenoid, I'll do that tomo and letyou know how I got on, the starter has been bench tested, is it possible that I have the wires attached the wrong way? does anyone have a picture of the correct posts....
