Default Another heater bypass question

My heater core is leaking and I am going to bypass it, placing a loop of hose from the water pump to the intake manifold. This was my mechanics preferred core elimination recommendation. He wants that water to flow to where it traditionally flows.
What I forgot to ask is, will the 5/8 hose that I have at home fit on the 3/4 inch water pump fitting, maybe with a tiny bit of soap?
Have any of you done it the way I am proposing?

Hey guy, just install a new heater core and a set of hoses. I don't know what year you have but the corvette shop manual tells all. In about 4 hrs, you will be ready to go. I've changed a couple of them and it's one of the easiest jobs you can do on a Corvette. You do have to have a lot of Patience, and a shop service manual to follow. Have a great one . Gene

...Unless his car has A/C, then the job gets more involved. Not really any harder, just more stuff to remove and replace from the inside of the car rather then under the hood.
