If your courtesy lights are going on and off at odd times or not going off at all, it's likely the timer.
The courtesy light timer should be behind the glovebox in a '79. It's bright orange in color so you shouldn't be able to miss it.
I've heard of some who were able to bypass it but I don't know the procedure.

I was told to bypass the delay timer you need to connect the two white wires. Cant tell you if that works because after removing the glove box on my 82 I could not find the timer!!!!
Wish I knew where to look??

Should be to the right of the glovebox. Your 82 might have a white delay box instead orange.
