Default which retainers for input yoke on BB differential?

hi guys.. which retainers do i need for u-joints at the differential input shaft? the yoke is measuring for a 1330 u-joint and the diff is from a late C3 i believe. the side yokes have caps.

the input yoke has a threaded hole in it, so does the u-joint require straps or caps?

sorry if this is an obvious question, i'm a C2 guy doing some upgrades..

caps from duntov corvette....i assume you are speaking of the side yokes??...some diff yokes have straps in lieu of u bolts, they are smaller than side yoke caps and yes the yoke is threaded and are available from a driveshaft shop...good luck

Mikey,

If you are at the front yoke on the rear end, is the car an AT or MT and what year is it?

As the title says, i'm inquiring about the input yoke, or "front" yoke which connects the differential to the driveshaft.

car is a '64 LS2 w/TKO600 - so i don't suppose that information will help answer this question

the input yoke is 1330 u-joint sized and threaded. the yoke has a clearance hole with threads inset behind that.. i.e. the threads do not start at the surface of the yoke end. the side (output) yokes have threads that start right away and i used caps on those yokes after this discussion thread:
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c3-t...rop-shaft.html

i should have taken a picture today, but forgot my camera on the way to the shop..

so anyhow, with the inset threads, that ruled out u-bolts. so is it straps or caps for the front (input) yoke? and who has 'em?

Hi Mikey,
That is a standard 1330 yoke. It was used on 68-79 automatics and 71-79 4speeds. All you need are the standard straps and bolts. You can find custom billet caps that will work but you will have a clearance problem in the '64. Let me know if you need any help locating them.

I don't think I've ever seen u-bolts holding an diff input u-joint. I've always seen straps. Have I missed something all these years?

BB72,
All 63-67 automatic and 63-70 4speed use the u-bolts. It's the 1310 joint.
