Default 82 Window Motor Replacement

Thanks to a few of you out there, I was able to replace the power window regulator motor without taking the entire door apart. It did seem a bit too difficult to get started on the project because of so much conflicting information available. I did make a few mistakes, but nothing costly.

If you want to replace your window motor in your late model C3 (Mine is 82) Just follow these steps.
  1. Pull off the door panel apolstry.
  2. Remove the lower access panel to get to motor
  3. Fasten the window glass to the door by using duck tape along the window base.
  4. If the window is all the way down, run duck tape along the window slot to keep it from popping up when the motor is removed.
  5. Loosen the 3 bolts that mount the motor to the regulator assembly.
  6. Then drill out the rivet closest to the bottom of the door using 1/4" drill bit marked 1" with masking tape so you don't go in too far!
  7. The lower portion of the regulator should now have enough play in it to remove the motor without bending anything.
  8. Remove the loose bolts, Gear retaining plate, and the motor.
  9. Pull the old gear from the old motor and put it in the new one if still in good condition.
  10. Replace (Reverse the proceedure) the motor!
  11. Use a 1/4 X 1/2" Bolt & Nut to re-attach (Recommend Torque to 70lb.) the lower portion of the regulator assembly.
  12. Remove the tape and give it a test!

Happy 4th!
