Default Power Boost removal instructions?

I think I need to replace my vacuum power boost, how does one remove it?

There's a plate in the wiper area, do I remove that to get to the bolts that hold it on?

The booster has 4 studs on the back of it. These go through the firewall behind the brake and clutch pedals up under the dash. If you are a contortionist, you should be able to remove them by lying on your back and reaching up under the dash. If you feel like dropping the dash, then the nuts would be easier to reach.

Get some extensions and some elbows...makes that job 10Xs easier....which will still be hard.

I recently removed my vacuum booster. (I was going to install a new vacuum booster but switched to Hydroboost instead.) You need to take out the driver's seat so you can lay on your back with your head under the dash. Here is the combo of extensions and u-joints that work well for me:

If you have a manual transmission, I recommend you disconnect the clutch rod so you can move the clutch pedal out of the way to get at the upper bolts.

If you search on booster removal, you will learn that it is NOT an easy job. The concensus is that you need a lot of patience and a six pack - at least. Someone recommended breaking your arm in 2 places.

BTW, I have a new chrome vacuum booster I will sell for an eBay price if you're interested.

I have not done this job, but have read where people say to wrap duct tape around the ujoints on those extensions to keep them from flopping around .

Can the Firewall be cut right above where the bolts might be from the engine compartment?
Then install a plate to cover the hole.

The plate is held on with four bolts. When you remove all four bolts, it still won't come out!

I removed my power booster with the extention and tapped ujoints technique described above. It was among the worse, if not the worst, job I've ever done on a C3. I have the dash removed, and that really didn't make it any easier as far as I could tell.
