I am looking to resore my original cast heads on my LS5/454. I've got an easy-out in a valve cover bolt hole and 1/2 bolt in another hole. I am looking to install aluminum GM Performance heads as a bolt-on application and I was looking for opinions on which ones to use. I am leaning towards the GM ones.
In theory, the idea is good, but you may run into some problems. The combustion chamber (at least on my 70 454/LS5) was a semi-open/closed chamber. It didn't look like a closed chamber, but it definately wasn't an open chamber. If you go open chamber you'll lose compression (good/bad?) you decide.
It your worried about the easy-out and other bolt, remove the heads and take them to a machine shop. I also broke an easy-out in a valve cover hole, they were able to remove, replace with a brass bushing and I was good as new.
