Speedo Problem
Speedo cable snapped a long time ago while on the road. Well, the story I got was that while this person was driving, there was a noise and the speedo stopped.
Upon inspection, part of the cable was missing.. the 2 halve where very badly rusted (its been 20 years since it worked) and it seemed to be in 2 pieces. Weird for a 74 I thought. Put 2 cables in like what was in there, didn't work. Used 1 cable from speedo to trans and now the needle on the speedo only bounces at speeds of 20-30 mph id guess.
What happened here and how can I fix it? Try the 2 cable set up again?
The speedo first worm and magnet is probably frozen up and you just got it to free up enough to work for a while.
The first worm and magnet bushing is probably shot in the head, at one point bound up and caused the original cable to snap.
My guess is that the head needs to be rebuilt on the speedometer.
While the speedo is working is the odometer turning?
