Hello, pulled the trailing arms off my '76, got the parts. Now I need a good service manual (already have the AIM) . Read somewhere that Clymers was useless, can someone recomend one? Mostly interested in the specs for bolt torque and end play on rear bearings. Thank you, Mike
I have the Chevy, Haynes, and Chilton manuals. The Haynes and Chiltons hardly ever get opened. The Chevy is so dog-eared and greasy I'm going to have to replace it soon. Nuff said?
I have the Chilton (way too general), haynes (better but still general) and Chevy (by far the best for most things). I got the Chevy manual (1974) and 1976 supplement on e-bay for $40 total used in great shape when new it was $100. They are often available on e-bay.
I posted a similar topic recently because the GM Passenger Car Manual (only GM issued manual for a 77 Vette) does not give "engine" torque specs. Others have suggested the Haynes Manual as being a supplement to the GM. Guess I'll have to have both!!
If you go to flea markets or ebay you can find someof the older manuals. I have a chiltons from 1977 that is 100% better then the newer versions. It goes into depth on differential rebuilding, rear bearings, etc where the newer version tell you to send it out
I picked up the GM manuals for between $5-$10 at a swap meet.
