Hi, I have used this forum as a great resource in the past. My automotive experience is limited so please bear with me. After a short road trip I noticed that my power locks, seat belt warning, and various other lights stopped functioning. Also, a wire connector rotted, broke and fell on the driver's side behind the rear wheel, close to the driver's side muffler. I tried just splicing these wires and connecting them with electrical tape but it hasn't done the trick. Is this just a coincidence and this wire is not related to the issue or do I need a specific connector to bond these two wires? What is the name of these wires and the necessary connector so that I can find a replacement?
Again, sorry, I'm a beginner but I appreciate the help.
Do your tail lights work? I'm at work and don't have my AIM with me to cross referance but the only wires I can think of that might be behind the rear wheel well near the muffler would be the tail lights or the power to the radio antenna. If the car is still running it's not the fuel pump...
As for the lights/door locks not working, sounds like a blown fuse most likely
the wires in the location you describe are likely to either the antenna motor or the tail light harness. If either circuit contacted the muffler it would blow a fuse, all of which are found on the firewall next to your left foot drivers side.
Here is a diagram for the tail lights
Door Locks
Brake Lights
CTSY lights
I don't have the diagram for the antenna loaded, will look for it
