Default 1982 Rough Idle

My 82 with 39K miles on it just started to have a rough idle, sometimes a surge when it is cold and sitting at a set of lights.

Also not sure if it is connected but also just started to lightly smell an almost oil like oder in the car that goes away after it is warmed up.

Where should I start chasing it? New PVC valve and tune up 3k miles ago and always use premium gas. Never had this issue before and it always ran great.

Suggestions and advice appreciated..

Thanks

I'm going through the same thing with the surging at idle. She had been sitting for about eight years with who knows how many miles (engine is not original but is a 350).

Here is what I've done thus far that has helped me. Rebuilt the TBs with new gaskets, checked play in the linkage, plugs, wires, fuel filter, check for vacuum leaks, and still she surges. The surging though was not near as bad after I replaced the gaskets, they were brittle with age and it needed to be done.

What I have left to go through is to check again for vacuum leaks, use a manometer on the TBs to check for balance, check timing, and I've decided to up my fuel pump to an 85 after some serious thought and suggestions from the CFI forums and experienced users on this forum.

Fair warning I'm a newb with vettes and a bigger newb with TBI, but I do know how to turn a wrench and do plenty of research before tackling an item. Ihave done a lot of research on this problem and have had a far amount of help and prods in the right direction.

Below is where I got some pointers from my own post. Run searches here and on the CFI forums, I hope that helps a little. Good luck!
