Surging 82
We have an 82 and when the gas petal is depressed and held constant, the rpm's surge and then go down again. Also it will not idle.
Im told it could be the AIR check valve or the AIR pump. Any thoughts?

You can have serious vacuum leaks where the Idle Air Control (IAC) valves can not compensate.
Possible sticking EGR valve. (check its operation when running)
Vacuum leaks in the headlight,brake booster. ( Disconnect hoses from intake manifold and plug at the intake manifold and see if the problem stops)
Bad gas or fuel level low with water in the gas tank?
Low fuel pressure? Check with a fuel pressure gauge and CORRECT set-up for the cross-fire engine.
Plugged up or extremely dirty airt filters.
Throttle body gaskets leaking air or throttle shafts on the throttle bodies are worn out and needing rebuilding.
Top plate to the. intake is leaking due to old,hard cracked gasket.
When it is running, do you have a "check engine" light on?
"DUB"

'82 Vette = Crossfire Injection = Surging.
Some are worse than others. A good fuel injection cleaner used often, every 3rd fill-up, might help.
Just another reason to hate the 10% Ethanol additive to gas.
