Remove the spare tire carrier- all of it. There are 2 1-1/4 wide straps that run over the top of the tank and bolt into the rearmost crossmember- soak those bolts with your favorite penetrating oil. The tank sets on a crossmember that bolts in with 2 bolts on each side- soak those too. Take all those bolts out after you disconnect the wiring to the tank sender and the hoses. Tank comes out. Make sure it's empty- gas is heavy and the tank is not real light either.
