Default opinions on the edelbrock performer package ?

I'm thinking about buying the low range performer kit, with the possible exception of heads. for my 454.
What is everyones opinion on this setup ?
I want alot of hp, I will be getting a blower down the line.
Should I stay clear of this setup with a blower ?
I want atleast 500hp/torque , atleast.
Thanks

edit: I really butchered that edelbrock typo in the subject :(

My $0.02 is that the Perormer (not the RPM) packages are too mild. Their small block cam specs out at 204/214 @.050 and the big block is 218/228 @.050. I pulled my Edelbrock catalog and the graph for the Performer package shows the torque peak at 3500 rpm with a large drop off over 4000.

I think you would do much better with a cam spec approx 225/235 @.050.

you will need a diffrent cam for the blower and i went with gear drive also. The intake will come off when you put on the blower also. Keep the $$$ and buy the blower. Call around when you get the blower you want and ask for some cam set-ups. It all works together the better they work together the happier you will be.

I would say if you are shooting for 500HP/TQ, you are looking in the wrong place. The Edelbrock cam is way too mild. To help you put this into perspective I will be running a 294 duration solid lifter cam (.595" Lift) and I am right around the 500HP/500TQ mark.

If you know for sure you want a blower, why not build the engine the right way from the beginning. This would entail purchasing the blower and building your engine the "right way" from the beginning. Otherwise you are going to be spending your money on stuff that you won't be able to use with the blower (i.e. intake manifold). Unless you have a bunch of money this route usually takes some time....look at me, I've been saving and exploring my setup options for over 9 months now. Take your time and do it right, you will be much happier with the results

Ok , So everyone thinks this is basically a good setup with the exception of the cam ?
btw, emsrescu , how do you like the gear drive ? I've been thinking about that too. worth it ?
Thanks
