Default Cam selection question/ cam and engine experts

I am planning my 350 rebuild, I am going to rebuild the shortblock with flat top hyper pistons at around 9.5 to 1 (not building a 383- already spent to many $$$ on rebuilding rolling chassis and still have paint, interior, tires and maybe wheels to go, need to save a buck where I can!).

I am leaning towards Brodix IK180 heads or an iron 180cc head (Dart, RHS etc), Edelbrock RPM intake, Quadrajet and a good set of headers and exhaust. I want to eventually put in a 5 speed overdrive, I have 3.36 gears and using Keislers speed analyzer I will turn 1800 rpm at 64 mph so I can't go too big with the cam.

I want to use a hydraulic roller and I have narrowed down the cam to either a Comp XR270HR http://www.compcams.com/Cam_Specs/Ca...?csid=158&sb=2 or Lunati VDSC-270 http://www.lunatipower.com/Product.aspx?id=1988&gid=289. Both of these have similar .050 specs as the LT4 Hot Cam which is supposed to make 400 hp. From what I can tell the LT4 has an intake closing point of 65 whereas both of these are at 61. The Lunati has a little less overlap than the Comp and LT4. The duration at .006 for the LT4 Hot Cam is 272/ 281 so it is a little longer than the other two.

Would either of these come close to making 400 flywheel horsepower in this build?

I'd say you're in the ballpark with those cams. I know your mind is set on a 350, but Scat has a stroker crank (9000 series, stronger than cast) for $200. Here's one of two dozen sources:

http://www.flatlanderracing.com/scc-cast9000pro.html

That's a little more than what prepping your stock crank will run,..though the new crank may need some prep. Good rods are out there for a reasonable price, or you may can use what you have. And you're already purchasing new pistons.

Give a 383 another look.

Back to the cam. I don't like dual-pattern cams if you're running good heads and exhaust.

How about the Magnum 270-HR single pattern?

I have not completely ruled out a 383, depends on what things look like in the next couple of months ($$$). I know thats the easy way to get to 400 hp.

I also thought about the Magnum 270-HR but its .050 numbers are not as good. Do you think that hurts it much compared to the newer cams. Also thought about a custom grind single pattern using Comps xfi lobes- lots of lift and from Summit they are the same price as the in stock ones.

What do you think?
Thanks

With your 3.36's, the 270HR sounds perfect. Here are the specs:

That is a ford 351 cam.
I like the lunati and the Brodix IK 180.
